About the Artist
Gerrit Greve
Dutch , 1948–2024
Gerrit Greve (1948-2024) was an internationally acclaimed fine artist based in Cardiff by the Sea, California. A third-generation Dutch colonial born in Indonesia, his family moved to the Netherlands before immigrating to the United States. This multicultural background profoundly shaped his artistic vision from an early age, when he began drawing under his parents' tutelage at age three. Since 1972, Greve exhibited extensively in galleries and museums, with his work featured in TIME Magazine and the Emmy Award-winning PBS series "Artists in Residence." His painting 'Northwest Territory' is included in "1001 Paintings – You Must See before You Die," and his artwork resides in important public and private collections both in the U.S. and abroad.
