Frank Piatek (1944-2026) developed a distinctive artistic voice outside dominant movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. Working across painting, sculpture, collage, and installation, his work explored spirituality, cultural memory, mythology, and the relationship between abstraction and representation.
A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Piatek exhibited widely, including at the Whitney Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. His work is held in numerous museum collections, and he received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Illinois Arts Council, among other honors.
