Born in New York City, Martin Sumers (1922-2012) studied at the University of Pennsylvania before establishing himself as a painter active from the early 1960s onward. He held solo exhibitions at the Art Fair Gallery and Nordness Gallery, and later at Martin Sumers Graphics in 1986. His work also appeared in major group shows, including the New York World’s Fair, the Montclair Art Museum, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, where he received notable recognition. Public collections holding his work include the New Jersey State Museum, Butler Institute of American Art, Brandeis Rose Art Museum, and the University of Miami.
