Thomas L. Holcomb (1948-2007) was a Washington, D.C.-born artist who earned his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and MFA from Southern Illinois University. His major focus was painting, with expertise in sculpture, lithography, and contemporary art history. Throughout his career, Holcomb exhibited extensively at universities and galleries, including shows at Henri Gallery in Washington, D.C. Vernon Pratt

Vernon Pratt (1940-2000) was an associate professor of art at Duke University. A graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, Pratt enrolled at Duke in 1958 but finished his undergraduate and master's degrees at the San Francisco Art Institute. He returned to Duke in 1964 as a professor, a position he held until his untimely death in 2000.
