Philip North (1916-2006) was an artist, originally from Michigan and later lived in Arizona, who painted over many decades. His earlier work (late 1930’s-50’s) contained strong elements of cubism and surrealism, obviously influenced by the European art movements of those eras. Many of his line drawings are reminiscent of Picasso. Nudes played a major part in his earlier cubist / surrealistic works. Later works, prior to his death, tended to be abstract colorful representations of local landscapes.
